International Hunger Program

International hunger programs supported in the past have included:

  • Mbujimayi Christian Health and Nutrition Center- $22,000

The Christian Health and Nutrition Center, located in Mbujimayi, Republic of the Congo, a city of over two million inhabitants who have very limited access to medical services, provides many health and nutritional services to the city’s population. Services to the population include minimal fee medical care, a vaccination program, a program to restore severely malnourished children to health, pre-natal and post-natal counseling, and nutritional programs.

  • Cormiers Watershed Project- $15,000

The Cormiers Watershed Project is a program designed to help residents of the Cormiers Watershed area near Leogane, Haiti learn and practice soil conversation efforts. The Cormiers Watershed is home to many subsistence farmers that scratch out a living on small plots (generally around 1.5 acres) that are difficult to farm and prone to erosion. Because of the project, soil erosion in the area has been significantly reduced and the program is now going to be expanded to other watershed areas in the region.

  • Community Development Resource Agency- $15,000

The Community Development Resource Agency (CDRA) program supports efforts for land reform and rural agricultural development in South Africa. The CDRA program addresses hunger-related issues in South Africa in several ways. They have established community agriculture support groups whose purpose is to enhance the agricultural output of the rural population. CDRA also provides a platform and forum for rural people to express their needs for rural development and, thereby, place rural development and poverty on the national agenda. A third initiative of CDRA is to provide educational resources and training to the less privileged so they can make meaningful contributions to their communities.
